On 5 December from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., the University of Magdeburg will create a festive atmosphere between twinkling lights, decorated stalls and the tempting aromas of gingerbread and mulled wine. Students and staff immerse themselves in the magic of the winter market and get in the mood for Christmas.
Peer Niehof, member of the organisation team and student marketing employee at the University of Magdeburg, says: "With the winter market, we are looking forward to offering students and staff on campus an event in the run-up to Christmas. Thanks to the commitment of the student initiatives, we not only have mulled wine, gingerbread, waffles and hot drinks to offer, but also hands-on activities and a varied music programme. It's great that so many international students are also taking part in our winter market!"
A total of 15 student initiatives and various cooperation partners from the University of Magdeburg are taking part in this unprecedented event. Visitors will find the winter stalls along the Magistrale on campus in front of Building 16.
One of the student initiatives represented is UMD Racing. The motorsport-enthusiastic students build racing cars and compete against other student teams in international competitions and races. "The winter market is a great opportunity to socialise with the other student initiatives. You can get into the Christmas spirit together and enjoy the pre-Christmas period with friends and fellow students," says team member Nikolai Loderstedt. In addition to warm drinks and biscuits, those interested can also take a look at "Edel-Bert", the racing car for the 2023 season, at the UMD Racing stand.
The pre-Christmas flair is rounded off by a varied stage programme. "The University Big Band, the a capella choir from the Faculty of Computer Science and musicians from the student union will provide a great musical programme and atmospheric background music for the afternoon," says Nance Kaemmerer from the organisation team. International students such as the "Magdeburg Indians" will also take part in the colourful stage programme with traditional dancing, Indian tea and mango lassi. There will also be a raffle and intercultural sweets from many countries.
